Hello Frank, I was wondering what your favorite animal was? Mine is the columbian black tailed deer, though mountain lions also hold a special place in my heart as well.

happy monk your socks off monday
i have been summoned by the sock monkey to defend the glory of my shitty hometown.
we were known for 2 things: 1) an all girl softball team that had a movie i never saw and 2) being the supposed birthplace of the sock monkey. (i say supposed bc it was just like the manufacturing place for the socks, and then there was apparently some big patent fuss bla bla here's 46 pages of sock monkey history) edit oh yeah i forgot we also have cheap trick.
the internet says we have a sock monkey festival which we may very well have had, but I don't remember it, and I used to volunteer for the museum that hosts it. so maybe it's new?
anyway my point is that we had giant plexiglass sock monkeys all over town, and also an entire wing of our local history museum dedicated to sock monkeys. (the rockford peaches also got a section in the museum.)
i am attaching photos of our giant plexiglass sock monkeys below, sourced from the historical society
i have to compulsively bring this up because i have not been to my hometown since like 2015, so the way sock monkeys are not socially or historically prominent anymore has been a culture shock. thank you
